Why I built it:

I started doing online auctions a couple years ago. What began as a couple auctions per week, soon ballooned into 100 per week. If you run auctions, you know that the work involved in tracking 100 current auctions (and many more that were closed but awaiting payment), can become very time consuming. If you don't run auctions, trust me; juggling customers, auctions, items, and sales can get out of hand quickly.

I built a database to track my auctions and that helped a lot, but the feedbacks, emails, picture maintenance, etc. still devoured too much time. So, I started looking for auction management software. Well, I tried them all. The buddies, the pros, the watchers, and the assistants. Many were free to download and try, some were inexpensive, some were very expensive. They all had one thing in common though... they weren't very good. System crashes, incorrectly designed databases and terribly confusing user interfaces.

Why did I build it? The others weren't very good.

Education:

Taking advantage of some free time I had in the mornings, I attended a local university and studied my favorite subject... computers. I graduated from Edinboro University in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1999, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. I graduated at the top of my class, Magna Cum Laude. The professors at Edinboro were fantastic and provided me with comprehensive course work and challenging projects.

When I decided to use my degree for independent software development (because of the disappointing selection of eBay auction software available). I took additional courses at Gannon University, also in Erie. Networking, advanced Windows programming, more database work, and web classes. In fact, the advanced Visual Basic course was perfect. The practical knowledge from that course, along with the classical training in computer science and math from Edinboro, provided me with all the tools I needed to build kAuction.

Software that works:

My software uses the latest technologies AND follows great programming practices. The designs and interfaces are unique and user friendly.

The software WORKS and does WORK. It doesn't crash your system, but more than that, it helps you to get work done (by doing some of it for you!).

It will help you to get more done, in less time, then if you didn't have it. It will organize your auctions and help you to make money. That's what you are buying auction software for... right?

Thanks:

A little background on Erie first. It's a great place to live, but it is not necessarily on the cutting edge for computer programmers. Because there is little or no competition amongst employers for computer programmers the technology job prospects are not that great.

Anyway, I owe a big thanks to many local business' for NOT hiring me. They made me realize one thing: if I wanted to work in the computer field AND live in Erie, I would have to consider doing it as an independent software developer.

I'd also like to thank a few people who were approached for help when I was in the planning stages. They decided NOT to join me, so now, having built it all myself, I don't have to share any of the proceeds!

Family:

I'd like to thank my wife, Debbie, and my boys for being so patient with my while I designed this software. Lots of late nights...

Hi boys!
